Specialized Water Bottle Award: Any school that tracks activity for 20 participants or more by May 6 Challenge I and May 20 Challenge II will be entered into a drawing to win 100 Specialized water bottles. One school will be selected as a winner for each challenge.

This award will go to the school that tracks the most total minutes spent in “SPARK physical education”. Schools with a minimum of 20 participants tracking SPARK Physical Education are eligible.

Oregon's Malabon Elementary Wins PeopleForBikes Award

It all started when Malabon Elementary School parent Norene Walters’ bike was stolen from the school last September. Norene, used to staying active by biking in every morning with her three children, could have used the incident as an excuse to stop riding. Instead, she used it as motivation to get more kids and families on bikes.

Active Schools Earn Awards in Kaiser Permanente's Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge

Thousands of students, families and school staff at more than 24 schools in Hawaii recently participated in the semiannual Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge, tracking more than 1,481,690 minutes of physical activity — walking, biking, jogging, surfing and more — over the course of one month. Kaiser Permanente awarded a combined total of $7,000 to 10 active schools on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island, which will go toward supporting physical activity and wellness programs at their schools.

Aleksander Academy is a small school located in Alpharetta, Georgia, that serves students with autism, ADHD and other learning disabilities. Walk to School Day Magic Reaches the Next Generation, Helps Spur Bigger Movement

This year marks the 17th U.S. Walk to School Day. 17 years! Wow. It occurs to me that some of the kids who took part in that first Walk to School Day event in Chicago in 1997 are now in their late-20s. They may be moms and dads themselves, maybe even planning a Walk to School Day event for their own young children on October 9th. Wow again.
